Culturally responsive consulting strategies based upon the relationships, issues, and trends within a multicultural society
Reflection
The case analysis thoroughly examines the acculturation and cultural identity development of a Hispanic adolescent within a multigenerational immigrant family system. The paper offers a detailed account of the cultural values and social influences that shape the young boy`s beliefs and values. Phinney’s (1995) ethnic identity model and Berry’s (2005) acculturation framework are appropriate for contextualizing his struggles between family expectations and peer-group identification.

The case study, however, could be improved by explicitly linking these cultural processes to performance-related concerns. Marginalized athletes often face increased stressors, according to research in sport psychology, which can affect confidence, motivation, and a sense of belonging. Stereotype threat, identity conflict, and lack of representation are a few examples of the difficulties minority athletes face in the performance space. Cultural oppression and family instability can undermine the fulfillment of the athlete`s basic psychological needs, autonomy, relatedness, and competence, emphasized by the Self Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2001)
The analysis thoroughly addresses power, privilege, and systemic barriers. Greater attention could be given to the gender expectations within the Latinx culture and how these intersect with the girls' developmental stage. Sue and Sue’s (2016) model is applied and offers an opportunity to further expand on the effects of bicultural stress and racial identity dissonance. The paper could give more details about how withdrawal, risk-seeking, or self-silencing are critical issues in youth sport.
